The Hever raffle prize this year was Judi Kirk’s spectacular star quilt, kindly long arm quilted by Mary Thorogood. So when the opportunity arose to attend Judi’s workshop, Regan was delighted to have secured a place. She writes:
"Rosemary Blackburn, the organiser from the Guild, had booked the halls at St John's Church, Hildenborough. This was a lovely venue with plenty of light and good facilities, so settling down to making our stars was a joy. Judi showed us various methods to make our stars, adding in her wealth of knowledge with many helpful tips and tricks. We were encouraged to use the simple patterns and play with design and colour whilst maintaining accuracy for a crisp finish. We all exchanged ideas on colour combinations and our pattern choices, borrowing speciality rulers and support from each other whilst having a good giggle.
As the quilt has an overall modern feel about it, Judi later taught us how to look at piecing the quilt together to get an unstructured scattered splash of colour throughout. Judi generously offered many ideas on different approaches to our designs while we happily munched on cake, which was much appreciated.
It was a thoroughly enjoyable day, well organised with good company and I can totally recommend a day of sewing indulgence to all."
