YQ at Hever 2018

What a wonderful weekend we had with the sun shining almost all of the time. We were able to show off a lot of the children’s work, which was viewed by the many visitors.

Young visitors to the YQ marquee had four different shaped cushions to choose from, with a good selection of fabrics. After choosing their kit they were then shown how to applique their initial onto the front using bondaweb before stitching the two pieces together and stuffing the cushion. Those that wanted too could also add some lavender, before closing the gap.  The cushions were sewn using a sewing machine, which for most of the children was the first time of using this equipment.  We had a lot of very happy children.

For the under fives there was a hand project to make a scrappy ‘Dream Catcher’.  Stripes of fabric, ribbon and lace where tied around cardboard rings.  However, this proved popular with all ages. What a pleasure to see how much fun the children got from rummaging through the scraps.

Over the three days we had 198 children taking part in the ‘Sit & Sew’.

For the Hever challenge, "Out at Sea", there were 5 under 10’s and 6 from our 11 to 18 year olds.
