East Sussex News Reports - Newhaven

In January, we had twelve children at our session making puppets, with ten volunteer helpers.  All of us had fun, adults and children alike.

Children were  invited to make their own puppets using cut out felt puppet shapes in various colours. There were  scraps of brightly coloured felt, ribbons, rickrack, sparkly bows and wool for hair to choose from.  Shapes were cut and glued while designing until final decisions made, then  were stitched either  by hand  or by machine.   Finally  the backs and fronts of the puppets were joined together. Some puppets  were given googly eyes,  stuck on with a glue gun.

For five of the children it was their first visit to the group, but they all said they would like to come back!  Next month we will be working on a picture for the AGM Challenge.

We regret that we cannot currently accept any more children.

The new Newhaven YQ group had their September meeting at Denton Community Centre.  We had 9 Young Quilters, six of them new, together with some brand new helpers.  We made a grand total of 27 Indian birds on a string, and one Big Bird, using sewing machines and hand sewing.  Everyone had a good time and they all want to come back next month to make Hand Bags in time for Halloween!

Currently we have two children on a waiting list and the Community Centre gives us lots of space, but we need more volunteers before we can take any more YQs
